Does anyone cut their own hair?

I hated going to the barber because I always felt self conscious there. I guess it was mostly due to my sp when I decided to try being my own barber. Anymore self taught hair cutters out there?

Yep. The last time i got a professional haircut was a couple of years ago - and i only did because i wanted it short and styled. Now it's longer i just trim it every now and then - no big deal. And it saves me money - that haircut cost me $50 !!!!! 8O

well i cut my hair outside pretty often and i hate it everytime i have to go there. But, if i try and do it on my own i will probably ruin everything and die out of sa when i have to go outside.

I never go to the hairdressers. My mum trims it for me twice a year. I always keep it to the same length because it's curly. Too short and it looks too thick - too long and it becomes unmanageable. It's so unfair! lol

Girls with straight hair are lucky - I am jealous!!

My wife cuts mine with clippers, it's kept short and I hated going to the barbers, I would never wait for more than 10 min’s for a haircut or no more than 2 people waiting and I would keep going back until the shop was less busy , sometimes it could take days for those right conditions to present itself .

I avoided the hairdressers for about 5 years. My mum used to trim it occasionally for me though.

I hate going to the hairdressers these days. I always get so hot and I start to panic, and its always so humid in there!

Yep

I have ALWAYS in any case except emergency.
Last year I had to go to a stylist to fix a bad perm and was there for three hours. It was hell...all of them talking, all of us in a circle, gossipping...well of course cept for me sitting their like a deaf mute (a clammy one) while they all carried on and I felt terrible

I ended up with a ponytail for my late teens and early 20's as I kept putting off going to the barbers... It was only when I discovered alcohol aged 25 that I decided to get a cut, I now get it done about every 6 months as I have improved a lot but I still sometimes have a bit of a drink before I go.

Yeah, it's difficult to get a haircut.

Good thing it lasts 5 to 10 min for me cause I like my hair very short.

Not to mention that my barber is a 21 years old cute girl and in the same room there are 2 more other young girls. And my anxiety is almost unbearable in presence of opposite sex.

But I have to get my hair cut, so I have no choise.

Man, haircuts! I thought I was the only person who hated going for them.

Luckily I keep my hair short, so it doesn't take long.

But seriously, I have it timed out to the best day and time to go when the place will be least busy so that I can get in and out of there.

(2PM on a Monday at my place. Kids are still in school, lots of adults are stuck at work or picking up/meeting kids after school. Luckily I work really early in the morning, so I am off early. And I think more and more people are there as the weekend gets closer.)

I don't have a problem with getting my hair cut, but that's probably becuase I've gone to the same hairdresser since.. forever I guess. :D Around 15 years I'm guessing, as I turn 16 in 2 months. She knows the major events and such tht have happened in my family, since the salon is just up the road . I can (and often have) walked there for a hair cut, since it's only a few minutes away.

However, the thought of going to someone else scares me. I'm afraid they'd yell at me for all my split ends or dandruff. I actually had to have someone else trim my hair once since the usual lady was on vacation. It was just another person in the same shop, and the one who usually cuts my mom's hair no less. I almost changed my mind to have my hair cut later insead of having someone new cut it.

I have that problem with dentists. Just when I get used to one I end up moving. And I totally think any new dentist is going to yell at me about my fillings, crowns and whatnot. And I don't know many people who can do their own dental work.... 8O

I get my friend to cut my hair, and then trim it myself in between. I don't like going to the hairdresser because they talk so much (+ I have to see myself in the mirror trying to respond to them!!!). I always end up sounding harrassed or snobby.

 sounds good. You're not from Toronto are ya?

I go about once a year to correct the damage I've done cutting it myself.

I thought it was just me
I always panic big -time at the hairdressers...its that combination of having to sit still...having someone too close to me....being surrounded by chatty skinny glamorous girls that make me feel like a moose...and then having to see myself try to cope with it all the mirror.
I persuaded my boyfriend to cut it last time....its not one of his talents  ...my hairs quite wonky now...but it saved me the stress of going

I cut my own hair too!

I cut my own hair but my mother says :? it is because i am trying to mutilate myself somehow. I had really long hair and i cut it off short like a boy. Do you think she is right :?:

I cut my own hair with an electric razor thing and two mirrors. It's a tedious pain in the arse. The worst thing about a barber would be if they started speaking to me, stuck there in a chair until they're finished.
