Ditropan v. Robinul

Hi guys,

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the difference between the two if there is one, or your experiences with Ditropan. I am currently taking 4mg of Robinul 2-3 hours before I eat breakfast and I am only getting dry under very controlled circumstances. If I still feel anxious, nervous, excited, drink caffeine, or even rub my hands together, then my hands, feet, and armpits start to flood as usual. I was going to talk to my dermatologist about trying Ditropan to see if it might work better for me opposed to the 4mg of Robinul but figured I'd ask you guys first.

Thanks as always!

Personally, Ditropan didn't do much for my HH and it crosses the blood-brain barrier so the side effects are more intense. Made me drowsy and has lots of visual effects (I wouldn't say hallucinating but definitely trippy) especially when mixed with alcohol. Also, it makes you a bit foggy mentally.

In saying this, you can always try and it may just work for you.

I've had good success with Avert so am surprised with the dosage you are taking and not achieving the desired results. How severe is your HH and where?

My HH is pretty severe and is primarily in my hands, feet, and armpits. I am making a new thread though also looking into the compensatory sweating aspect of Avert/Robinul because the 4mg of Robinul 2 hrs before breakfast as indeed maybe 60% of the time now made my hands, feet and armpits dry, but my forehead, face, and neck now sweat quite a bit more I've noticed.

I tried scouring the forums a bit for old posts regarding Ditropan and found mixed results. I am interested in trying Ditropan for a bit instead of my 4mg of Robinul, figured just a test run couldn't hurt me compared with the chance that it might work better. Was hoping someone could give me some input. The facial compensatory sweating issue I am getting in the late afternoons is just increasingly bothering me, even when I am walking around an A/C'd shopping mall my forehead will still just sweat and I have to keep wiping my forehead (with dry hands most of the time :) ).

Maybe Ditropan can keep the dry hands and feet that I am getting from Robinul while also keeping me dry all over (maybe including my face?)

I would still say Robinul is your best bet for anticholinergic drugs. Give Ditropan a go as everyone is unique but it does make you a lot more 'spaced-out' or 'brain foggy' and for most, not much of a decrease in sweating.

As for mixing Robinul and Ditropan, I think you are just going to get more side effects with not much difference in sweating.
But trial-an-error is key.

Personally, I would use Robinul and Driclor/Drysol for the compensatory sweating issue. Robinul will decrease the sweating internally while Driclor/Drysol will decrease the sweating at the skins surface by blocking the sweat glands.

I would usually need Robinul for the warmer months which is about 4-6 months here in Australia but with the persistent use of Driclor/Drysol, I am able to get more control of my HH and use Robinul as a back-up.

Good luck and let me know how you go.

I took 3mg of Robinul at 7a.m today. By around 11am my hands and feet were totally dry. The biggest downside is the dry mouth. My mouth was so dry that I couldn't eat a sandwich cause i couldn't swallow my food. I was constantly sipping on water. I probably went to the bathroom 4 times throughout the day due to the water i was constantly drinking. There was not a single drop of saliva in my mouth, my throat actually hurts. The big plus is the dry hands and feet. The big negative is the dry mouth.

Ditropan made me very drowsy in its effective dose and hurt my ability to think (couldn't play chess at all), and also caused visual effects. Can't imagine living with it.

I recently started taking 2-4mg Avert a day depending on weather (never tried it in the summer) and my CS is very mild and I get only slightly drowsy (to the point I forget about it) and my mind works fine (I'm a student). My mouth is quite dry (but managable) and there's a higher sensitivity to contact lens - I recommend using glasses as much as possible when using Avert/Rubinol - if you don't take them out in a few hours, don't use fake tears or something to wet your eyes, or you do work in dusty environment, your eyes might suffer.. Mine goes red and sore. Not nice. Glasses are just fine, and still using fake tears can't hurt.
The drug works best when it accumulates in your body for 3 days.

The reason why I am looking into Ditropan is just because I don't think Robinul is giving me the results others are getting. I mean please do not get me wrong, Robinul has still been a Godsend, where I used to sweat every waking minute from my hands and feet that has been reduced by at least 60% which has given me dry hands for the first time as far back as I can remember. But still in anxiety, heat, or nervous related situations my hands and feet still sweat nearly just as bad, and I get some compensatory sweating on my forehead and neck. I am taking 4mg 2 hours before breakfast, although not sure about if I should up my dose to 6mg (I know margiehope takes 6mg she says on hot days) or look into Ditropan. I am wary about Ditropan because of how much better Robinul seems given the input I've read, so was thinking about upping to 6mg daily. Not sure about if body composition or severity of HH if they play into how we each differently metabolize Robinul, but I am 6 feet 180 pounds and have very bad hyperhidrosis.

That's the price to pay with Robinul/Avert. It will stop the sweat but
also make your throat and mouth very dry. Makes it hard to eat without sipping
water and makes it hard to talk for a long time without constantly sipping water.

I still think it's better than being totally sweaty in public, but the dry throat and mouth sucks. My only solutions are to drink water often, chew gum, and I'm going to try Biotene oral gel which supposedly can help with dry mouths.

Also I don't take Avert everyday, only when I really need it. Maybe 2 or 3 times per week tops. I figure if I take it every single day it will eventually lose its effect plus I'd have to deal with a very dry mouth and throat all the time.

I certainly use Avert less often in winter compared to the summer.
