comforting things

List the things that make you feel comfortable or cozy when you need it.
Im having some trouble making myself feel "comfy" when I'm depressed or lonely.

the things I can think of: warm glass of chamomile, hot shower...

It has always been thunder and rain. Nothing can calm myself better than that.

Second is the sound of a lake or ocean.

Calm to me is to be in comfort.

Lots of sleep makes me comfy. I also like to relax and watch a marathon of movies/tv shows. I've been doing that a lot lately to clear my mind. If you are a religious person praying also helps. This might sound a bit weird but I think doing a great deed like donating to the poor or the needy and helping those in need would help you feel good and help enrich your spirit.

Good films, reading books, doing general research about the world (I love atlases and encyclopedias), stargazing (love my telescope), music, naps, solitude, taking long drives, alcohol, cigarettes, the rain, the woods.

I'm gonna take the lazy route and say exactly this. Because, well. Exactly this.

Comfortable around-the-home-only clothes

Yes! That's a given for me. And I can't help it when I get home sometimes I don't like wearing clothes I've been around in public in my home... I try to keep everything clean...........
I'll make it short and say the most comforting thing to me ever, that would be my laptop :D

-hot bath with TONS of bubbles
-trying a new shampoo, soap or scent
-candles
-fresh baked goods right out of the oven
-big, warm blanket
-hot chocolate
-massage (if u can get someone to do it or are able to get out)
-comedy (the kind that makes tears roll down my cheeks)

For me listening to uplifting music helps.
also:
-sleeping with a white noise or birds chirping in the background (I have a noise making machine thingy that plays a loop of birdies chirping all night)
-being in the outdoors
-wildlife watching (can't do that so much anymore because it's almost winter)
-looking at old photos
-cuddling with my beautiful girlfriend with a movie playing
-hanging out with my 2 best (and only) friends

Designing comfort things.

EXAMPLE:
Designing and creating a game controller chair. That is optimized in comfort and focuses on nontraditional controls for a more immersed game experience. :3

(like foot controls for movement. Two (detachable) joysticks with a lot of buttons on them so that you can configure them in any way you like. A split keyboard that you can place over you lap easily, and fold/move away when you don't. 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound around the chair, with addition to two immersed in the headrest. A strong vibration system inside the chair for any possible action sequences that you might want to enhance physically. And last, but not least... a cup holder).

-Getting up nice and early
I don't know why this helps so much but it does. I just enjoy being up early as I feel I can start getting to grips with things that need to be done and it also helps my sleep pattern stay stable.

- Housework
I sometimes struggle to get going, but I find it so relaxing to tidy up, and I feel so much better if I get my flat tidy and all the chores done nice and early so I don't have them hanging over my head all day.

-Exercising and going to the gym

- My cat Jinx
When my cat gets sleepy and curls up with me on the bed, or when I'm on the pc she will sit on my shoulder :D

-Gaming and reading,
It's just nice to loose yourself and have fun sometimes. I love most games but I'm starting to really like co-op games. Also I love really deep games (like rpg's) and books which get you thinking and draw you in.

Cool! Have you actually designed one?

Thanks. ::p: I have designed a few, but I never got to build them due to having a low budget. I have it all laid out in my head. Once I have the budget for it, I'm gonna process the design- and then build it.

I've done various other comfort product designs too, but neither of them got build either. It's only a matter of time, though. :)

Plants. For some reason growing things and tending to them makes me feel better when I'm stressed out. I am probably the only person with a garden growing in their dorm. Haha.

I left my plants with my mom over winter break while I was away and she killed most of them :(

Baking is also really comforting for me. Except when I'm done, I don't have anyone to share with... So I have an entire chocolate cake in my fridge that I need to eat by myself. Not that I'm complaining about that, of course ;)

I forgot about exercise. Running for long distances and dancing make me feel amazingly relaxed afterward. I feel like all the negative energy and toxins drain away from my body when I break a good sweat and push myself to exhaustion in the gym. I guess it might give you the same feeling.

Thanks :) I get up no later than 10 am, but that's when I have a lie in. I like to get up about 7 these days. Sometimes 5 or 6. Was horrible at first and I felt like a zombie.. but it feels natural now and I feel more refreshed. Also it's nice to watch the sun come up.

And yeah you worded that really well. It's almost like a bit of a rush? when your running and push yourself to breaking point or smash one of your old time records, not to mention as you say it burns of all that negative energy and gets serotonin pumping.
