Christmas Music Connoisseur

I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur, but there are certain pieces that bring back happy memories in a wistful sort of way. Handel's Messiah, Saint-Saëns's Christmas Oratorio, a few hymns, carols, madrigals. Classical stuff, church stuff. I'm not the least bit religious anymore, but that's what I was raised on, and that's where my fondness still lies. I'd rather be singing them myself than listening to someone else, though, were that still a possibility.

Christmas music, I think, is a lot like country music in a way: the best tends to be really good, while the worst tends to be utter dreck, with not much falling in between. Which pieces go in which category is a matter of taste and opinion, of course, but for me it's the older works—the rich, round tones, the mighty chords and grand orchestrations—that rise to the top. Mystery and candlelight, hopes and fears, and glory to the heavens. That's what sounds like Christmas to me.

I usually dont enjoy Xmas music, especially coz so many of them are heavily religious.. But I do have a soft spot for anything done by Celtic Woman... Especially this one, I know its an odd choice for someone who usually avoids religious music...
