Today

I'm walking home from class and there's this guy walking toward me, a tourist probably and he has his arm outstretched and he's holding a phone. He's recording the scene. We're on a bridge over a river, I'm just trying to cross it and get home and I can't really go anywhere except walk faster. Hes moving his arm around to get everything in and then he points it directly at me and I turn my head to try get out of the shot.

This happens every day at least once, tourists trying to capture an authentic scene. It bugs the hell out of me. CCTV is one thing. But the bloody general public and their blasted camera phones. They just film whatever and whoever and think its their right to post it on youtube or facebook and some stupid social media site. I never gave my consent to be filmed and I'm sick of it...Why is my face (which surely is mine and nobody elses) why is it that the decision to capture it and post it somewhere else is not my decision. Just getting to and from class everyday I am unavoidably caught in some cameraphone or other.

I would never point a camera phone at a complete stranger. I think its incredibly bad manners and more than that, invasive.

Sounds like the place you walk through is a popular attraction. Is there a different route you could take to avoid tourists? It's really a bother to be in the camera view of some random stranger and have your picture captured without permission. Maybe you can wear a hat or a hooded sweater to cover up your face when you walk through the place?

No, unfortunately I go the least touristy way. I live right in the city tourists are everywhere. Tourists are just one example of the many sources of the filming and the filming is the problem. Tourists are at least well meaning about it. Everyone films everything, thats the issue. Nobody truly owns the rights to their own image anymore. I hate it.

Here's a prime example. Someone sent me this. From what I can understand this woman was yelling at this guy for cycling on the path (I totally understand why) clearly she is very distressed... Instead of leaving her the **** alone (she does try to walk away) he tries to get a reaction out of her for the camera which provokes her further. The whole thing escalated, cops got involved, she gets in trouble and the smug shit with the camera films it all and now its on the internet. 4.5 million views and a 30000+ comments saying shes a crazy lady. The guy who filmed and posted it, hes an absolute ****head in my book. Hes probably ruined her whole life. For the purpose of the rant here is the video:

No, that is a crazy lady. I mean, she's thrown her drink on him. No excuse for that.

I agree there's no excuse for it but you can certainly see how it came about. And it still didn't give him the right to post it online.

I agree that this is starting to be a problem. And it will be even more of a problem in the future with the drones. You won't even be safe in your own backyard.

In fact I'm so sure that this issue is getting worst, I like to think that there will be a debate and some laws about it in the near future (or so I hope).

I would like to add to your collection of aweful exemple, the girl who got gang-raped during a party and killed herself about a year later because it was all over youtube and she was being bullied. Good job, humanity.

It is unsafe, as is mobile phone use, these people are so tuned into their phones and cameras they aren't aware of what is going on around them.

Today I was waiting at the auto checkout, and a woman was texting on her phone. There was an check out available, but she was too busy on her phone to notice. Finally a member of staff had to say, there is a check out available.

I absolutely agree! I certainly hope that there will be some laws brought in to govern it. I find it absurd that there isn't any already, I guess technology is ahead of everything. I think legislation needs to be put in place generally to protect people's rights with regard to social media. I hate facebook and all of that, once something is posted there's no taking it back and yet anyone can post almost anything about anyone.

People have the capacity to be very annoying with their phones, I hate when I'm talking to someone and I have to repeat myself x5 because they are pre occupied with their phone. Im very aware that I am giving 100% my attention and they are giving 20% and we are very much at cross purposes.

There is no privacy anymore with the way of technology.

I think we can try to be positive about it and not let it bother us too much since it is completely out of our control at this stage...all down hill from here really...but, on a positive note, we are able to keep people like the police for example treating citizens better with our ability to film them. We can film crimes and criminals and have some feeling more of safety that not just anyone can get away with anything anymore.

As far as drones go, there are some people I hear raising and training birds of prey to take them out. I might have to get into falconry-that would be a cool thing to have on your property!
