Call Center job

Would it be crazy to go interview for a call center position even with SA?

The lady reviewed my resume and said I was a good fit :thinking: WHY Idk. Nothing on my resume is customer service related. I've never even worked in an office. I am really not sure if they are low on applicants and just decided to contact me.

Here is the description:
Call Center Entry Level Collections Position - Career Opportunity
Position: Collection calls to automotive finance customers. Payment arrangements for delinquent customers. Fast paced team environment. All incoming calls.

Now Idk if I'd have to be tough/demanding with the people I call. I can't do that. I am too nice. Actually I am not, its the SA lol

But when I use the phone at home and no one is around me, I speak comfortably (not 100% confident but not bad either). As soon as someone comes near, my voice gets shaky and awkward.

This is a temp agency. If I knew the real company, I might go and see if they sit in cubicles or open areas. Idk :(

There is a place like that around here that dose sales and customer service for a few companys. I applied but there was alot of stuff you had to do and they said the training took like six months or something like that. I new I would not get the job and after finding out what they did was not sure I wanted it with all the stuff I would have to do. But you should atleast give it a shot

both my mom and a friend have mine worked at a call center specifically to overcome their social anxiety. It seemed to work wonders as far as phone-a-phobia conquering goes, also talking to strangers. My mom was one of their top sellers because she seemed so genuine and human. go for it!

Hi...

From what i heard, call center jobs can be demanding. But why not give it a try for 1-2 days?? See it for yourself....if you don't like, Quit. Attend the interview with a game like attitude. Go there to see what goes on in your head while someone interviews you. It might be fun. Easier said than done...but then courage is not absence of fear, but doing things in the presence of Fear.

I found it easier with my social anxiety, to do jobs where there is little interaction with people. Too much socialization and i feel UN-pleasant.

yeah, collections means you will have to be very persuasive and even downright mean. you will be trying to get money from people who don't have money. then again, it's inbound calls only... but being that they say you are perfect for the job, even with no office experience gives the impression they are eager to fill the position. usually, that is the case with collections jobs.

if you can't find anything else, i say give it a try. it will be a learning experience at the least.

Hey I would try it out and try to be positive that they were considering you. They will train you and teach you how to do it. You may have to read off a piece of paper but dont defeat yourself before trying.

since ur not selling stuff u could be alright.

irate shouting customers were reaaally difficult for me... i would never ever ever work in a call center again, but i was selling stuff so that was a different thing..

I worked in a call center for about 3 years. I was always one of the top sales people on my team. The nerves were basically gone by the end of the first month.

I'd never work in another call center, but that has nothing to do with Social Anxiety... I just hate customer service, and hate being in an office even more.

I know what u mean. I worked at a call centre for almost a year, there's an easy solution to that. Well, not easy- but if u really want u can get over this problem like I did. To this day I don't answer phone calls when I'm on public transportation by the way, this is something I still don't like doing.
As far as working at a call centre go- all u have to do is concentrate on the phone call and the screen in front of you, don't look anywhere else, don't think about other people, if possible- try to take an 'isolated' sit, don't sit where everybody sits that'll make it easier. Don't be afraid to raise your voice, and don't forget something- no one cares about you, they all work too, they're all on the phone too doing their job. I know it's hard at first but once u get used to that it'll seem natural to you.

It might be difficult if you have SA and are really sensitive because you could have to deal with angry customers. But if you really need a job and think it would help you then try it. People have told me that customer service jobs will help me, but they never did. And I worked in them from when I was 16 up to this year (I'm 21). Thankfully I am not working currently, and if I have to work again I will try to find a non-service job. They do nothing except lower my self-esteem.
