hi everyone i'm 32 and suffer from sp which i think is caused by my blushing. i blush very easily, i get embarassed really easily and people laugh at me because of it or look away in embarassment themselves ( i think they are doing this more now because i am "older" and shouldn't be like a blushing 15 year old. i've been on antidepressants in the past which helped a bit but went off them as i decided i had to eventually and tried to cope without them. if anyone has any advice how they deal with it including medications and surgery it would be greatly appreciated. or any empathy would be good too. its effecting me to the point where i want to quit my job and have even had suicidal thoughts because of it because there seems no way out. i thought it would go away as i got older but it hasn't.

dear 30's something"...i too blush very easily and it has caused extreme disability in social areas my entire life. i am irish, light skinned and when i blush everyone can see it so clearly. i too have been at the brink of quitting life. it really hurts to feel the whole universe is looking at you. on the other hand i want to be aeen and heard. it's just that my social anxiety impedes my life. i struggle everyday to fight this dis-ease. i don't know how i keep going. but, please keep going. don't give up. you can e-mail me and i will support you anyway i can. my name is rick and i recieve great benefit using my experiences, hope and strength to assist others like yourself. i have no answers...but i have a real understanding how this stuff destroys the inner self. please, never give in all the way. there is always a ray of hope. sincerely, [email protected][/b]

I blush badly too. I've found though as I get older it doesn't happen as often, as I'm more comfortable in my own skin I guess. I was so worried about my wedding day as I had a strapless dress on. Even though I was nervous, I didn't have the usual rash (betroot face, patchy all down neck and chest). I was fine until I had wine at the reception, then I went red. Does anyone else who sufferers chronic blushing also get a rash from drinking alcohol?? I'm very interested, as I've never been able to conquer this! The rash from alcohol is so bad it goes down my arms and is very noticeable. I don't know how many times I've been asked what is wrong with me when I'm out having a drink. Now I drink at home.

hello everyone, Hope i can help. For the last 2 years I have had problems with brushing starting on the face, then going to the chest and arms. It is bright red and can be blotchy. When i get stressed or am under pressure the rash just pops up to say hello. I have tryed creams and all sorts off the internet none have work! The advice I can offer to you is to talk to your doctor he can prescribe a small dose beta blocker which stops the rash appearing, no loss of concentration, the only problem is you cant drink alcohol if you take the tablet. The way it works is by stopping the adrenaline racing round your body which causes the rash.Hope it helps

hi guest, i found it was the medication reacting with alcohol.
as soon as i had alcohol i used to blush for no reason, or my face would be blochy and patchy

i think it was worse with seroxat

are you taking medication? that was my cause anyhow

I used to drink heavy on beta blockers it was a good feeling although scarey the first few times i did. A few cans and i was totally relaxed whereas it would usually take 6-8 cans without beta blockers.
I'm not sure weather you can drink on beta blockers, prob best not too
I've quit drinking now anyway and feel much more at 1 level
I take 100mg a day which stops my heart racing
Sometimes i'll take 150mg a day if i go out, i dont think im supposed to but it relaxes me to some extent
Although my heart isnt racing i still feel panicky and fear of blushing and i still blush on beta's
I would recommend them as they dont have as many side effects as the SSRI's

hi there 30something, i deffinately have a blushing problem. it's my main prob with my SA and deal with it everyday. i can't go without wearing my hair down if i go out. but that doesn't work very well for guys with the usual short hair. i was on paxil for a while and helped however i hated the side effects.

i hope you guys are right about it getting better over time. right now i'm 19 and still suffer alot!

i worry so mcuh about my wedding day! i can't imagine having all that attention on me , especially being the bride... i hope no one jokes about me being a *blushing bride* arg! plus taking the pictures and the reception, leaving and turning away isn't an option. how was the service over all?

my bf's dad turns red when he drinks alcohol and he's not a blusher at all so i guess it just depends on the person. i'm not aware of an meds he takes and don't think he takes any.

I have the same problem. It's quite debilitating. It is like one great hinderense
in my life. When I feel it coming on I start to freak and "fight or flight" happens.
Needless to say it is better then it was when I was younger but I still do fear it.
I would also appreciate any advice given.
