been to a movie theater alone?

I once asked my counselor what can I do to kill boredom, and she said go and watch a movie. But alone? Where I live I've never seen anyone go to a movie theater alone and although I think it's a good idea I just can't get myself to do it. Scared of what will happen if the lights suddenly come on and I don't know where to look. ::eek::

Nothing wrong with going to a movie by yourself!

I think it shows that you are comfortable with who you are - no need to worry about what other people think all the time.

Most movie reviewers go to cinemas alone too, as part of their job. They don't take friends along as friends only distract them when they should be taking notes during the movie to write a review after watching it.

I've been to the cinema a few times on my own. First started when I wrote for my old university's newspaper, but started going occasionally just for the hell of it. I love it. I relax more and take the movie in a whole lot more.

And yeah, if you feel to self conscious about it, take a notepad with you and say your doing a film review for a local paper :D

I have been to a few movies by myself, and although I feel uncomfortable by myself, the movie usually distracts me from my discomfort. I always hope I will be the only one there! :)

I for one, love going to the movies by myself. In the beginning I was scared of what people thought of me. But once I start doing it, it just became second nature to me. Some good things about going to the movie by yourself, is you pick the movie/time/place etc.. and you don't have to worry about nobody talking to you while you are trying to watch it. Then after the movie you don't have to express how you liked the movie.. the list goes on and on. I find that if you go to a movie in the middle of the week vs going on a busy night like (Friday,Saturday or Sunday) it will ease some of your thought... Go to a movie like Wednesday night and its hardly anybody in there..or caught a early movie soon as they open up and nobody will be there...

There is nothing wrong with going to the cinema alone but I could never cope with going alone, I would be so scared of what people would be thinking of me.

Rest assured they would think more positively of seeing someone quietly watching a movie on their own than they would seeing a group of over-excited teens throwing pop corn and texting on their mobiles ALL THE WAY THROUGH :)

I watched Star Trek, Terminator, and Drag me to Hell all alone. I didnt even think twice about it. I asked a few ppl and no one wanted to go, so i went on my own.

I use to go to the movies by myself alot. But not lately. It was usually in the daytime when I did. You see alot of people by themselves then. I didn't see many people alone at night though. Then I might feel uncomfortable.

When I was 16 I made plans to meet a friend at the movie theater to see "Highlander" (the original one with Christopher Lambert). My friend never showed and I decided to stay and watch the movie by myself even though I felt weird and self-conscious about it. I'm glad I did because it was a great movie. Since then I've been to tons of movies alone. In fact, when I actually have someone to go with it's weird because I'm not used to it anymore. Mostly I just stay home and watch Netflix films. It's much simpler.

No I haven't but its a great idea, and I think I will sometime, I don't think anyone would even care we are there by ourselves, and what does it matter to them anyway? I've been to concerts by myself, and although that felt strange in a way, it was very good, and you don't have to think or worry about anyone else.

people go to the movies to watch the movie..not you. You might feel odd in the beginning but after the movie starts its cool. When the lights come on just get up and leave..or leave a couple of seconds before everyone else to beat the crowd.

The only downside to going alone is when someone else has (accidentally?) taken your reserved seat. Last time I went with my relatives they spent five minutes in the aisle fussing LOUDLY over whether it said row E or F, complaining they couldn't see well in the dark and prodding me to ask the people in our seats to move... what a nightmare.
:D

LOL... indeed a nightmare!

What a coincidence, I did that for the first time two days ago. :D
It was really nice and not as uncomfortable as I thought it would be. Go for it! You'll have fun!

I prefer to go to movies alone. Can't remember the last time I went with friends. Some of my best memories of the movies were when I was the only person there and had the whole theater to myself.

I try to pick movies that have been out for awhile so it won't be crowded. I finally saw Star Trek last week and I literally had the theater to myself. :D
