Are We All Fake?

---Never mind! I overreacted. We all do the best we can with one another. It's not easy being human.

It possibly doesn't help that you live in LA. From what I can gather it's one of the fakest places on the planet! But I hate fakeness too, with a real passion. Truth and honesty are probably my highest ideals in life. But despite this, I think I'm probably still full of deceit. I suspect it's a core part of human nature. I suspect we all twist and bend and manipulate the truth for our own benefit, whether as a defence mechanism to protect ourselves, or just for our own selfish gain. Like, for example, if we don't want other's to see our weaknesses and the parts of us that we're ashamed of, we're more tempted to pretend everything is ok and lie, than to feel the pain of social condemnation and rejection.

But I think it's a good thing that you're at least feeling......what's the word?....conflicted?......about the fakeness in society. Being real is a good ideal to aim for I think.

I had a very pleasant exchange with a person helping me out at the clinic. But, afterwards, when she said goodbye, she feigned a smile. It was so fake! At that moment, it's as if her mask was ripped off her face and what was underneath was very ugly. It would have been better if she flipped me off!.....Anyway, I know that look, it's one of contempt.

That got me thinking. Are we all fake? Sometimes to be social, I feign smiles too and show more enthusiasm than I actually feel. I need to stop that!

I think in reality we can barely tolerate each other and do what we can to get by. I don't know. :idontknow:

You sound dramatic.
As for your question, to this day I'm unsure of whether or not people are fake. From what I've read/concluded, some people genuinely like small talk with strangers. Others are just being polite or doing their job.
I'm not fake for two main reasons, 1) too lazy and 2) I don't know how to fake it well.
If it had been me, I would've been my real self. I wouldn't have interacted with you at all. And you'd be on here saying you met a cold bitch at the clinic who didn't say a word to you...

All one needs to do is peruse farcebook to see the epitome of fakeness.
The news even had an "expert" on warning that looking at that site could cause depression or cause people to make rash financial decisions in an attempt to look good and keep up.

.........In that case, I think we both sound too dramatic.

Point well taken though. I get it. Why should I care. At least they tried to be nice. That should be good enough!
