Anyone here have or had a part-time job during college?

I feel the need to work because I want to pay for the things like groceries, textbooks, and other necessities instead of having to rely on my parents for such things. I would also like to have some spare cash on the side whenever I feel like going shopping. Problem is, it's been hard looking for part-time jobs because a lot of them are in retail, which involves lots of communication. However, I know all jobs are like that and the same goes with my future career after I step out of college, which will require lots of teamwork and communication, so it doesn't look like I have much of a choice..

I would like to know your experiences in the work field. Are there any other part-time jobs besides working in retail that still require some type of communication? Where would you recommend to work? How many hours did you work a week while in college? Did you have a hard time balancing work and study? Was it hard landing a job in the first place? How was it like dealing with customers?

I have a part time job, very party time. About five hours in the day is just work. I work very early in the morning stocking an arts and craft store. The only people I see is fellow coworkers and sometimes some customers but usually on my way home before the store opens.

I would say try to find a job that's over night or early in the morning, most of the time its a replenishment job.

Its the best start up job!

I recently had a part time job. It was weekends at a grocery store. In the deli department to be specific. It was awful. I wanted to quit after the first real day, but I ended up staying 3 months. This weekend will be the first one I'll have free in a while. I'm glad to have more time to study on weekends now. I found that even though I would plan to study after work, I was way too mentally exhausted to do anything.
I was hired despite the interviewer saying I was "shy." I'm not shy actually. I'm socially awkward/anxious. The customers are very annoying. I dealt with them by always saying the same thing: "Hi, what can I get for you?" I didn't even try to chat with them. Dealing with the customers was hard, but so was dealing with the other employees in the deli, plus the other employees/managers in the store. I usually ate outside instead of in the breakroom. The job paid 50 cents above the minimum wage.

I would like to get another part time job, preferably in a library. Otherwise I'll have to wait til I get my degree and see if I can get less socially demanding jobs.

College here are some ideas.

Public Jobs ( In my area they call it an four letter word ). Take the test and get results.
Education ( people needs employees to work in educational facilities )
Job Core
Job fair
Internet jobs. ( little things you can do to make a little money )
Federal Loans ( Take an loan out and use it for etc )
Private loans.

Financial Aide ( you can request for more aide in explanation of your situation ).
Public Assistance ( basically claim yourself as homeless ( for X amount of years and go to school )

Grants various organizations are looking for the future employees and leaders to do work
Lottery

Bottom-line you need an Job to get most loans. In college you can opt for various loans depending on the requirements. Organizations will also pay for your loan in agreement that you do work in various locations ( which is what most people do to get rid of loans ).

Finally the military. Serve some time and survive and avoid combat unless you mean to. One guy did an non-violent job in the military and came back flicking his hands. In fact I am considering this right now. Go military and waste some time collect some money and go home.

Another thing is to just get good grades in your field of studies. By doing so, I would just do this and you will get grant money. Your grades are the only thing that is important in college. In order to teach ( finish your masters ) you need those high grades. Some masters requires you to write an book ( like how MIT publish stuff all the time ).

Also make friends in your area and find people anybody to work with.

If any of this info was helpful then vote Regalsin.

Also colleges have
Federal workstudy
College Aides hiring.
College jobs
so forth. Just apply

Even working as an College police officer is also good for future town police officer. You can also get work in office of EMS as well. Even various medical facilties have some low-paying non-medical job.

Everybody is milking everybody.

I worked part time during college... only 10 hrs though. I tried 20 before but it ended up causing more trouble. I never worked at a pet store but I thought it seemed like a fun job to be a pet handler. There's also sometimes jobs at your college. Maybe you could work at the library.

I would recommend getting an internship in your field. Most likely, it will be unpaid. But, it will help better position you after you graduate.........Believe me, as an SA sufferer, that is critical. You need every advantage that you can get.
