Hey, I'm new in here...

I had the ETS surgery procedure done 5-6 years ago. I chose to have the nerves clamped, instead of cut. For 5-6 years I was without hyperhidrosis and it was great!

Well, as of this past August, the HH started to come back.

Has anyone in here had this happen to them?

If so, are you considering having the operation again or using a different treatment?

Well... I haven't read a lot in these forums yet, but the little that I've read is that people want to stay away from the ETS Surgery...

I haven't read the stories yet, but I will... but as for me...

... I didn't have any major problems at all... there was compensatory sweating in other areas, but for me, was very tolerable. Oh and I wasn't able to eat spicy foods anymore, because it made my head sweat a lot, but that too was tolerable. i just stayed away from those foods. I don't know what the %s are as far as people who had success vs. people who had bad side effects, so maybe I'm in the minority I don't know...

For the most part, even though HH has started to come back for me recently, I still see that the ETS Surgery did great for me. I was able to experience life without it and it was nice to be the first one to extend my hand to greet people!

Maybe I was lucky? Or maybe it was because I live in the medical capital of the world - Houston, TX (at least I think we are) that I had success... I don't know...

Anyway, I'm not considering doing it again, now that HH is back. Don't want to take the chance again... especially now that I'm reading all these negative posts about "DON'T DO ETS".

I was just hoping there were would've been a few in here that is going through what I'm going through.

Oh, BTW.... thanks for the link!

Ian, Sorry to hear your HH came back after surgery. From what I've read on this forum the past few months is that it's kind of split. I've seen some people saying ETS is wonderful and worked for them, others are like 'stay away'!

I've also had split experiences with Doctors! My original Dermotologist gave me Drysol a few years ago, then last summer '07 i went back b/c it really didn't work on the hands and I was in situations where the HH was becoming more of an issue, and the derm gave me a prescription to see a surgeon! Said that was my only option, doc didn't know about the iso or b-tox. So right from Drysol to ETS was their opinion!

So i was like no way am I doing surgery where they have to collapse my lung and cut or clamp stuff without trying anything else so i went to new Derm group - right off bat 2 of the group docs suggested b-tox. Got it and so far good results (though of course temporary as you know).

(But i also understand that with more body sweating the surgery is better, I just have basically the hands and underarms.)

ive had ETS

Im 23 years old and recently had ETS surgery to cure the sweating in my face and hands. I underwent the ETS laser surgery where they burn the nerve in my chest to make it less active this is different than the cutting or clamp. I am thrilled with the results of my surgery. THere have been a few side affects like my back and legs sweat more. But this is very tolerable compared to what i used to go through on a daily basis. I feel much more confident because i can work work with my clients at work and shake their hands with out having to fear my hands being wet. This is a very emotional subject for me because i thought hyperhydrosis was something i was going to have to live the rest my life with. If any of you are considering having the surgery or have questions i would encourage you to do much research before going through with. Please email me if you have questions i will respond to ALL emails [email protected] and replys. This website is a very valuable tool i am happy to see others that can relate to my situation.

Hey, there are lots of horror story's plastered all over the internet about how horrible life is with ETS. Obviously some of them are very legitimate, and surgery is never something to be taken lightly but dont let it completely scare you away.

I'd give just about anything to have my insurance cover ETS surgery for me.
If your like me & there really are no other options that will work for you... dont let these people scare you away.

Before everyone here attacks me for defending ETS, think about the truly severe HH sufferers. For the worst of us ETS is the only option left, and a little or even moderate CS would be the greatest thing that ever happened to me.

There are plenty of people with severe HH who have had the op and regretted it, and then again there are plenty of people who have had the op and been pleased with the results. It's a gamble. Just not a gamble I'd advise anybody to take.
