Anyone experience math test anxiety?

Ok, I have social anxiety and have had it for awhile. Xanax XR is helping me deal with it. I'm working on a Computer Science degree which requires a lot of math. I really have never liked math, but I have to take it and I am experiencing a lot of anxiety during tests. I can do the problems fast and right outside class, but when I get to a test, I get all tense and I get some mental block and just can't think as fast and remember how to do some problems. I'm fine taking tests in any other subject and get all A's in every other subject. I'm doing terrible in my math classes though. I had to start with College Algebra. I had to drop it the first time I took it, because I did so bad. Second time I got by with a C. Now I am in Trig and I did pretty well on the first test but bombed the last 2 tests and I may have to drop the class and take it again. I don't know if it's the pressure or what, but I need to get over this because I have to take a lot more math. Calc, Calc 2, and more... Because I am doing bad on the tests, the anxiety is becoming generalized to the whole class and just being in class makes me tense now. Being near my instructor makes my muscles stiffen up and I tremble too. I can't even reach and grab papers she hands me or take them from her with out just freezing up and trembling. When I have to hand in the test when I am done, it is really hard, because of this. The instructor is hot btw and I like her and I think she likes me, but she probably thinks I am weird now. I told her that for some reason I am having a lot of math anxiety and she didn't say much to help me out. It's really strange. Anyone else with a similar problem?

I don't think it's related to SA at all. Tons of people hate math. In fact, a lot of the time, I notice the more social kids find it more frustrating than people like me, but I have trouble with writing, like turning my thoughts into actual sentences. But I think the ability to think mathematically is just a gift that some people have and some people don't. And I think you'll find that the majority of people don't have it.

Sill having a problem with this on top of S.A. :( I just got done with taking Calc 1 for the second time. I have to be doped up on benzos just to attend class. In class, I'm generally ok outside of tests though. I do all the problems many times over and when I'm at home and not taking a test, I can breeze right through them and understand them all and well. This second time around the instructor realized and acknowledged I had this anxiety problem. I didn't tell him about having SA, but I did say that I couldn't think straight and got all "wound up" on tests and I forget how to do problems I knew how to do a half hour before the test! Despite this anxiety problem, I still got low A's on the first 3 out of 5 tests :) I probably would have aced them if I could think straight though. On the last two tests though, I completely bombed them, because I couldn't think at all. I was extremely tense and even simple problems took me forever to do. I didn't even come close to finishing the last 2 tests because of this. Luckily I had a good instructor this time who knew I know the stuff and just had anxiety problems. I would spit out the answers in class and he made us hand in homework and he looked over and graded every problem and I'm sure he could see I knew the stuff. After this last test I mentioned "damn, looks like I will have to take this over again". He said he would give me at least a B though and he knew had this anxiety problem. Anyway, I'm glad about that, but I need to do something about this anxiety problem because Calc 2 is next and I heard it is hell for anyone(even people that can think clearly on tests). Anyone else suffer from math test anxiety? Any tips on how to get rid of it or lessen it? This instructor and other instructors have said that if you do the homework, you will be fine, but not if you can't think straight when taking tests! My trig instructor even said that math anxiety was rare and only a small population suffered from it. Acutally, in this last class, there was another student with a test anxiety problem. I overheard him tell my instructor about his anxiety during tests and I chimed in and said "I have the same problem...". I think he must have dropped, because I didn't see him after the drop deadline.

So, I am moving on to Calc 2 here in the Fall(soon), but I need to find a way to get rid or lessen this anxiety. I would love to get rid of the SA too...

Anyone else take Calc and Calc 2? Is Calc 2 really the nightmare I hear it is?
