Anybody move to another country?

or city?

did it affect your shyness?
were you overwhelmed by the change?
were you relieved to leave your old life behind?
did it make you miss your hometown? did you later realize that the place you missed was more of idea than a place?
how did you adjust?
was it hard to make friends?

In that case, I immigrated from Ukraine to the US.

"did it affect your shyness?"
I think it stayed constant.

"were you overwhelmed by the change?"
At first, yes.

"were you relieved to leave your old life behind?"
Being 8 years old at the time of arrival, I didn't really think much as I was in awe of my surroundings, which were vastly different.

"did it make you miss your hometown?"
No.

"did you later realize that the place you missed was more of idea than a place?"
N/A

"how did you adjust?"
It was a long time ago -- I guess I read more books, lol.

"was it hard to make friends?"
As hard as it was in Ukraine.

Immigrated from the UK to New Zealand when I was about 13 - 14 against my will, had six months not knowing anyone or having anyone to really talk to before highschool started, and when it did it was a nightmare for the first couple of weeks until I got to know people.. first year went pretty well but after that the differences in culture/accent etc started to take its toll on me and my anxiety took to a new level..

Anyways.. I was always shy growing up but it never affected my life so dramatically until I moved. Never really missed the UK because I figure I was headed down this path long before I moved.

I moved from New Zealand to Australia.

It was fresh start. New people, new job. But unfortunately you can't leave yourself behind. I loved the first 2 weeks here, I was very relaxed, but slowly things have crept back up on me. In saying that though, I am much happier. I have meet new friends, and they are wonderful people. The thing is they enjoy going out and doing a lot of things, and I'm kinda freaking out about how much they want to involve me. As a lot of the time, I don't want to go out. But to answer your questions, adjusting and making friends and everything has been ok :)
