Hey guys, I'm from the UK.

I was just wondering if any of you guys have had experience with Citalopram, for depression?

I went to my doctor's a few months ago, and he gave me a prescription for 10mg Citalopram, 10mg being the lowest amount there is.

Has anybody else taken this and feels it helps them?

Hi Soprano. I'm also from Britain, Britain, Britain!

I've been on Citalopram for a few months now. I was prescribed 20mg. For the first two weeks o'r so you won't feel any effect, I actually felt nauseous during this time because you'r body has to get used to them. They seem to be working but I do get the side effects at times which are common. The side effects I sometimes experience are; Euphoria, tiredness, blurry vision, ringing sound in my ears, sometimes loss of appetite. Non of these side effects bother me too much so it's fine.

Obviously taking meds alone are not going to be a miracle cure, they only mask the real problem. You need therapy to get to the root of the problem. I'm waiting for therapy which I will hopefully get in October.

Take care

I just recieved a letter 2 days ago, informing me that I will be given an appointment with a therapist for a counselling session very soon, I just have to fill out this letter and send it back to them.

I recently ran out of my Citalopram tablets and haven't had chance to get down to my doctor's for some more, so I've been without them for over a week now. When I next go down, I think I'm gonna' ask to be put on 20mg.

How come some people are given 10 mg and not 20mg?

I'm not sure, mate. That's just what the Doctor put me on, maybe because it was my first time taking an anti-depressent and he wanted to "test the waters" gently with me, or maybe from the way I came across during our consultation, he felt it would be safe to start me off on 10mg...

I was put on 10mg of Citalopram or Escitalopram or something. I took if for more than 3 years. It helped me, but I decided to stop taking it in December because I had enough of the side effects and feeling numb. It basically stops you feeling. Which is a good thing in the short term but is not a solution. For it to be effective you should combine it with therapy. Educate yourself about your problem. This is where I went wrong. It made me feel good enough to get me through the days so I didn't bother doing much else about my problems. And here I am more than 3 years later educating myself and doing all the things I should have done then. This time I'm determined to feel my way through the challenges, however hard it might be, instead of using a drug to suppress my feelings. It's the only way in my opinion.

i was on 20mg for about 6 months, then cut to 10 and came off it soon after that. it was exactly what i needed at the time and didn't have that many side effects really-did make me a bit disorientated for the first few days though. 10 mg is a really low dose and can't see it causing many problems to be honest as long as you keep some sort of target to come off it.
