Anti-depression meds, Should I take them?

I've been given Zoloft today, and I'm really apprehensive about taking them. I have to take half a tablet a day with breakfast and it's supposed to counter the drowsiness during the day (a symptom of my depression) and the side-effects of sleeping tablets that the doctor has prescribed as well.

Thing is, these tablets will screw with my mind and I really don't think I need them. I've been wrongly diagnosed, and instead lean more towards anxiety rather than depression. If anything, I want to get over this stint of crapiness with psychology rather than drugs, which is already helping me get over my anxiety.

I have two questions to anyone who has taken this stuff:
1. What happens when I get off Zoloft? Will I go back to my old depressed self? (Read in the other thread about brain-dead zombie stuff, but want to see if anyone had any different experiences)
and
2. Can this 'chemical imbalance' of the brain be treated with pschological help rather than drugs?

Please reply all and thank you for the help.

Hey DaDahhhhDaDaDa :) I cant comment on ZOLOFT but as for taking antidepressant meds to help with your Anxiety its impossible to tell untill after you started taking them. Everyone reacts differently to drugs and antidepressants do help with some stages of Anxiety. On the other hand if you think you've been wrongly diagnosed then speak up but be careful, some docs deal with patients differently. Some dont offer out meds while others do, so be aware of that (if you complain) coz you may end up with nothing at all. Same thing almost happened to me after I complained about ZIMOVANE. I asked to get another opinion and after much "deliberations" by 2 docs I nearly ended up with nothing except advice to do "more excercise"...
...Its a tightrope we're walking here, a f**king tightrope!
