Anime

Okay so this is the first thread that I'm starting. Hopefully it's in the right place and everything ^^'
Does anyone out here like anime? As much as I love it, I feel that it does in a small way contribute to my social anxiety. Because the more time I spent holed up in my room watching it, the less I'm outside socializing with other people. Plus MOST people who haven't seen it give you strange looks. Usually it's kind of funny, but it means that there's less of a chance of me befriending someone that doesn't like it.
If you do like it, what's your favorite show? :3

Anime is like Japanese cartoons. Only the art is MUCH better, the storyline has real depth, and the music is pretty good. Lol

Yay, another otaku! Lol :)
The only one of those shows that I've seen is Death Note. I've read some of the One Piece manga though ^^
My favorites would be Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, Elfen Lied, Fushigi Yuugi, Pandora Hearts, Bleach, and Hell Girl. Lol

i like a little anime. i cant get into the over the top kind. you know the kind where they overreact to everything and get little symbols over their head. and sometimes the dialogue is just too corny. but i do really like some anime.

i msotly like sci-fi anime because i am a big sci-fi person. cowboy bebop is my favorite. actually in my opinion cowboy bebop is one of the best things that you can watch on a screen, period. i also really liked blue gender and berserk. i will one day finish hellsing, i have only watched the first like 4 episodes but i want to finish it.

if anyone has some good sci-fi anime recomendations that would be awesome.

I used to like it a lot more than I do now,as so much of it is similiar.

But my favourite one of all time is kino's journey which is absolutly amazing,I reccomend anyone to see it,wether they like anime or not.Think 'the little prince' but with a really cool female lead and beautiful european-style villages.Much too shorth though only 13 episodes.

I also like Black butler but I'm waiting for an Irish release.Natsume Yuujinchou,Gosick and dragon ball Z

I find a lot of Japanese culture to be rather fascinating, but I've never been able to get into Anime. I just...don't like it. I find a lot of it kind annoying, to be honest lol. Sorry! :(

Anime's certainly an interesting... "journey" as it has been for me. As far as genres go, I used to be really into Shounen action/adventure anime when I was in my middle school/early high school years. For example, Bleach, Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, sorta... you get the point (I think, if I'm getting the point across, lol).

Between then and now, I've gone in and out of anime, genre preferences unpredictably changing all over the place.

Nowadays, my preferences tend to be anime that lends itself more towards the philosophical or psychological side, and anime during the latter half of the 90's. For an example of both, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Shinji's a really relatable character for someone with social anxiety and depression. It's such a shame that not only in the show did he have to put up with so much hate, but even outside the show most anime fans tend to downright hate him. Ugh! xD

Aside from that, other examples of anime (given the two categories: "Philosophical/Psychological", "Classic 90's") I've finished lately would be... Haibane Renmei, Welcome to the NHK!, Serial Experiments Lain, and Cowboy Bebop.

Ironically, I'm currently watching Azumanga Daioh, which fits into neither of the two categories. That might be another category in the making. It's actually pretty cute, and I like cute things, despite being a guy. :3 And I can quite relate to Osaka so far.

@Shant: If you like Azumanga Daioh, then I would recommend K-On! and Nichijou :) Both anime are pretty cute and funny. The former is about a high school light music club, and has two seasons. The latter currently only has one episode and one OVA out right now.

I used to watch shonen anime, but nowadays I gravitate more towards seinen and josei. Used to watch Bleach, but it keep going on forever and got pretty boring.

I just finished watching Hourou Musuko, a calming and thought-provoking anime about transgender issues of two middle school kids, and Aria the Animation, another calming anime about a girl training as an apprentice gondolier on a terra-formed Mars in the 24th Century.

Right now I'm watching anime from the Spring 2011 season. There're a lot of great shows this season, like Nichijou, Gintama, Sket Dance, Ao no Exorcist and Tiger&Bunny (this one is interesting, it's set in a futuristic city where there are superheroes, who are sponsored by big companies)

I LOVE animé, although I haven't watched animé for such a long time
I like school life series or animé with a lot of comedy.
I like Shoujo-Ai Romance as well, and Shounen-ai too :)
Or series like pokémon, digimon, Haha :$
Azumanga daioh is a nice show, and of course Naruto!
I like Fruits basket a lot :) and Nana!
Strawberry Panic, Bleach, One Piece.
Soo many

K-On!'s been on my list for a while now, but I'll have to check out Nihijou. :p There's tons of shows I'm watching at the moment.

Again since the last post, genres changed: Now it's either: "Philosophical/Psychological" and "Light-hearted comedy". Azumanga Daioh must fit into the latter. xD

I'm certainly more into Seinen than Shounen nowadays; I didn't mind Bleach when I was watching it, but it's one of those series (I'm looking at you, Inuyasha, Naruto, Pokemon, etc...) that just have wayyyyyy too many episodes. I don't have the motivation to stick with that, lol.

I'm actually trying to get into more Shoujo/Josei shows, but the fact that most of them have romance as a genre turns me off. I don't want to come off as a "Stoic", but it's just kind of awkward since I don't really believe in love these days. >.> And they're usually the series that get unrealistic about love.

I've watched a few animes throughout my life, a lot during high school, but not as often now-a-days. Currently I am going to watch Lovely Complex again, just because it's so ridiculous!! XD
But I must say I prefer manga over anime. My favorite all time manga series is Godchild by Kaori Yuki.
