An old debate...I know

I just wanted to know people's opinions on this one.

Is SA something hereditary, do you think you had a natural disposition to it or was it developed from negative past experience?

In my case I feel like it's maybe both but more of the latter.

And if it is hereditary isn't that worse? Meaning it would be harder to 'fix' if it is in your genetic makeup.

What do you think?

No one in my family has anything like it, and there's more than enough in my childhood to account for my fear of/difficulty in dealing with people.

I think it's a mixture of both. Having certain genetics may make it easier to fall prey to bad situations such rejection, bullying, abuse, etc. With a certain temperament, these situations can quickly snowball into a problem, whereas other people may have a much easier time of shrugging them off.

I can't say one way or the other if it's hereditary or not.. But my mom has SA and Agoraphobia and Depression just like me... Though I think that 99% of the reason I have SA is environmental.. Issues from my childhood.

I think it's more personal experiences of being rejected a lot hence the reason I fear it and the depression as a consequence of living in fear. If it was genetic then it would probably be impossible to change anything.

Seems to be more of a nuture thing than a nature thing. But I don't know enough about it to say.
