I recently came acoss a novel supplement called Serenity, manufactured by GAIA Herbs. The main ingredient is Kava (which I have had great luck with helping my SP) but there are many other supplementing herbs including Chamomile, Skullcap, Passionflower, Wild Oats, Hops, Mugwort, and Peppermint. I was hesitant at first, but after I took my first pill, I was amazed. I felt so...SERENE! I was much more relaxed, my SP was helped greatly, and was just a great relaxer for my brain. I highly recommend this great product to all you SP sufferers, and think it is a great substitute for xanax, klonopin,etc...

Hope you all have the same luck that I did with this great herbal supplement.

howc long did it take to take affect and what side affects do you get from it? let me know!

thanks

I noticed the effects with the first pill, surprisingly. The only side effects are that you may be a little more lethargic and tired, but to tell u the truth i would take that anyday over the anxiety.

Well I have heard a lot about kava but it never worked for me when I tried it a couple years ago but I was using water down pills they sell in the super maket which dont have all that much kava in it.I'll have to look in to this Serenity stuff. :)

About the Serenity I have a few question's. Is it all natural and where did you get it from and how much did it cost?

Kava kava is the best herbal remedy I've tried. Within about 20mins or so, I feel so relaxed and at peace. I bought it from Biovea off the net.

Kava has worked wonders for me and it’s been used for centuries. And there are no side effects or addiction. I take about a couple spoonfuls a day and put it in some juice. I’ve finally got on with my life and no longer want or need to see a therapist. I will use Kava for the rest of my life…It’s nature’s cure.

One more thing...

Kava not only takes anxiety away, it actually makes one more sociable and flirtatious. I read that and I can tell you it's true. If you don't have a lot of money or insurance, give it a try.

I'm going to look in to kava again. When I tried it.It did not do anything for me but I was taking the low grade stuff.

One thing I do want to say is that is not completely safe.People that have weak livers or have had problems with there livers should stay away from it.Just wanted to put that out there.

euhm...just wanted to say Kava kava is forbidden in many country's all over Europe...it's said to be very bad for the liver...don't know if this is true but that's what I read

Products containing herbal extracts of kava have been implicated in cases of serious liver toxicity in Germany and Switzerland. Approximately 25 reports of hepatic toxicity associated with the use of products containing kava extracts have been reported in these countries.

This said I still would like to try it, but it's illigal to sell it here in Belgium...

yeah it's supposed to be bad, but how bad for the liver, I don't know. I do know that some of us with SA use alcohol as a medication so i am now wondering which may be worse. I do drink alcohol but I also believe that the use of pain relievers with acetominephen, "spelled wrong im sure", have more to do with it than drink. seen a show where some rainforest natives were getting completely trashed on Kava, They drink it all the time in those places and they have alot of old wrinkly naked people among them. maybe they just look older because of their primitive way of life and constant hard working, but i think they probably don't live long enough to experience any detrimental liver effects. They sure are happy though. LOL

I'm reading a book called, Healing anxiety naturally and it talks about Kava, the guy says that it is not recomendable to take for more than 4-6 months. But when used in small amounts on a occasional basis it can be taken for longer. He suggests 70-85 kavalactones taken 3 times a day.
One thing he warns is not to combine Kava w/benzodiazepines/synthetic tranquilizers. Talk to your doctor about it if you are not sure.

Well I got my order through today, just in time for my presentation I had to do for uni (which was the aim). I had 6 capsules of 250mg with 30% kavalactones totaling in 450mg. I put the contents of the capsules (powder) into some camomile tea. Within 10 minutes I gelt the slight effect which continued to progress into general relaxation and contemptness which when doing the presentation helped me enourmously. Needless to say the presentation went very well, I think some of my classmates were quite amazed at how chatty I was when answering questions on the presentation.
For a first experience I was very satisfied, im still feeling calm around 4 hours later.

I did a search for this Serenity pill and found a site that right now is having a promotion on it where you get it for free (you only pay shipping) and its like 7 dollars. I don't know if its only for the USA though but if anyone is interested they can go check it out for more info. I just thought it was a good deal and wanted to let everyone know about it.

bit of an old thread, but thought i'd pipe in with my experiences with kava since it's getting mentioned a lot. oh, and hello, this is my first post!

i've tried about 4 different varieties of kava powder and one type of kava pill, so my experience is limited to that. the kava pills i took didn't do anything for me at all. they weren't particularly high-grade, so it could just be a lack of potency, but i did a lot of research on it beforehand, and came across many comments to the effect that the pills don't work but the powder does, so i didn't really pursue pills any further. YMMV.

Now, the powders were completely different. Here you could really tell the difference between a high quality powder and a cheaper one. First, making a drink with kava is a pain in the ass. It's time consuming and annoying - it's more of a social/ceremonial drink historically, where the preparation is all part of the experience, but if you're taking it by yourself, then be prepared to spend 5-10 minutes mushing this stuff by hand in what quickly becomes a pretty tedious process. And it tastes absolutely awful. However, with good quality kava, you can really feel it after a couple of glasses. It makes you so relaxed, yet completely sociable and with full mental acuity still intact. It's sort of like pot's relaxing affect but without any of the mental clouding. The cheaper stuff just did not do this anywhere near as well. It pretty much seems to be you get what you pay for with kava powder. Also be warned that when you're drinking it your lips will go numb for a short period of time. It's not unpleasant, just weird if you're not expecting it.

Now, the problem is I really don't like the taste. Many people say they have gotten used to it, or have tried mixing it with juices (which i've tried, but it still tastes awful), and the thought of drinking it kind of turns me off enough so that i don't really take it anymore. So I'm back to trying the pills... I've just ordered the highest-potency ones i could find straight from a farm in Hawaii that makes some pretty good powder in the hopes that maybe it will work - although it's more of a shot in the dark as apparently it is the masticating process when making the drink that releases the kavalactones, which is the active ingredient.

Will let you know how it goes when they get here.

I've got some questions about this. Is it safe to take if you are already taking an anti-depressant? Like prozac or lexapro?
