An easy way to become a better conversationalist

Have you ever noticed that the best conversationalists always have lots of stories?

Go through your memories, and come up with 3 stories for each of the following situations. Write them down and memorize them.

- Drinking/partying
- Crazy people
- Girlfriend/boyfriend stories
- Sports or fashion
- Outdoors/hiking
- Games
- Random people you've met
- Places you've gone

In almost every conversation with people who are pretty much strangers, these topics will come up.

When they do, introduce your story at an opportune time. Tell it such that it's interesting. Don't just take 3 sentences. But don't spend 20 min on it either.

If someone interrupts you, don't go back to telling the story unless someone asks.

If a particular story always seems to get a poor response, discard it and try a new one.

Stories are everywhere, its great! We are part of our own story. Many people who tell these stories dont forcefully remember them, they naturally, openly give their view of how they think things happened to them.

When we are out we can relax and be open, this allows our mind to free flow. When we try too hard to sound interesting or be seen in a certain light or to appear confident is when we usually almost always fail, why? Because we are performing for others. I dont feel this is what you are doing but i wanted to mention it as you raise a good point. People who naturally experience the world in a light hearted way always have lots of funny interesting stories because this is how the world appears to their mind. Stories are a great way of allowing others to leave their mundane thinking and enter your world of experience. Its fun.

I think we all need to become better story tellers.

Thanks

Jack
