Alcohol and non-UK countries

The UK totally sucks! Everything seems to be centred around high amounts of alcohol consumption.

I must be one of the small percentage who doesn't think its clever to get drunk 3 or 4 times a week. However, it seems to be the easiest way to meet women (or men if you're a girl).

In London it's particularly bad in terms of the number of single people and people over 30 who are not married. Unless you are a drinker your opportunities appear slim.

I think they should raise the legal drink limit to 21 like in the US.

What's it like in other countries?

Where i live right now(Winnipeg) its 18, which is awesome because i just turned 18. But where i moved from(Newfoundland) it was 19. I'm not sure about other places. There is an island called st.peire...cant spell it haha....and its 16, but i think thats technicly a part of France or something, i'm not sure how that works. I know what you mean though however i do drink just not out in bars and at parties like i used to, I sit home and drink, kind of depressing.

It's the same in Australia, any event is just an excuse to get drunk. I thought it would be like that all over the world.

Totally agree with you there.

There's more to life than getting blind drunk. Without trying to generalise too much, the younger people and singletons in the UK seem to drink as if it's going out of fashion.

Drinking is another way to forget, at least for a while. In a society as supercharged as this its not really a suprise. Even sub-consiously I reckon people want-out of their troubles and find this at the bottom of pint masked by the promise of a good time.
