alcohol abuse

is there any connection between excessive alcohol use and the onset of Hh? no one in my family has it and I used to drink like a fish, so I'm thinking this could be my first alcohol related problem (not including the alcohol problem itself =P)

strangely enough I got a case of the dog's hair on my hands, as alcohol is the only thing that cures my hh (albeit temporarily).

I don't think alcohol causes the onset of HH, I first got HH when I was about 6 or 7 and I wasnt drinking alcohol then. I have noticed alcohols effects it not as strong as it used to be.

When i was younger it didnt take excessive amounts of alcohol (about 10-12 units) to stop me from sweating for several hours, where as now if i down 3-4 pints in about 20 minutes my hands are dry for max 5 minutes.

dont reckon tbh

think as u say a connection between alcohol and temporarily stopping sweating to some extent (due to dehydration I think) but that is about to

still though now summer is here even alchohol isnt stopping my sweating :?

i thought you meant that you drank excessively to stop your hh from being so bad. i've noticed that when i drink, i'm much more relaxed and so i sweat less. also, dehydration does that too. i'm not dependant on it though. it's just nice to have something to distract me from constantly worrying if someone will notice my hh.

If anything alcohol helps get rid of sweating. Oversweating is due to an overractive nervous system, and alcohol is a CNS depressant, so it should help to alleviate it, and also it dehydrates you.

In my own experience alcohol may help alieviate HH for about an 1hr or so but the next day its worse than before. So i think drinking can actually make the condition worse.

according to some sites e.g. http://www.mf.uni-lj.si/acta-apa/acta-apa-02-1/altman.html "Palmoplantar hyperhidrosis may frequently be observed in chronic alcohol abusers"

other searchs ive done have gone on to say that palmar HH especially is common in alcoholics.

I do not swaet either when drinking, but is much worse the day after.

I agree that many alcoholics starts to sweat when they drink to much, but that is just reaction from the body to get the poisen/alchehol out of the body.By sweating.

I dont think HH is a alcheholic problem the most HH victims get this at the age of 13 and before that. And I do not belive many did drink at that age!!

klamm i think u misunderstood

i dont think every palmar HH suffer is an alcoholic! The info i found stated that some alcoholics suffer from the condition also which is focused on their hands only not generalised HH.

i too started to suffer this condition in my early teens and i didint start drinking until my mid teens.
