does anyone here drink alcohol to calm down the nerves and anxiety b4 going to work/school or anywhere else? i do and i love the buzz i get out of it when i'm drunk, i feel on top of the world, like i can do anything, talk to anyone and its almost like the anxiety is completely stripped away and i actually feel like myself.

To rely on such an aid to get you out is very bad indeed, drinking may seem like it solve all your problems but believe me it doesnt, its fake and only leads to further trouble in life on top of what you allready have.I suggest you get it sorted as soon as possible before it destroys you, there are other methods to beating our problems and drinking is not 1 of them, please think about it,it gives you a buzz yes but it also damages you mentaly and physicaly every time you do it and become more dependant on it.

We here on this site will try to give you all the support we can but please reconsider you current methods.

Im not addicted to alcohol and I never have drank before school or work, but I do know alcohol is good for calming nerves. It always makes me feel more relaxed and I sometimes forget that I even have social anxiety. I wouldn't go overboard and get totally drunk or drink everyday though, but if your in an occaisional situation where drinking is acceptable, then it might be helpful to ease some anxiety.

ive bn using alcohol to avoid my sa since i was 13/14. whenever i druank id feel invinsible its a huge confidence booster id have no worries. slowly tho the alcohol deteriorated my my life, i got to the point when i had to get completely wasted on a night out and hve to be on my way before i left the house. one day i woke up and finished a bottle of vodke i started the night before.....basically i was a mess. well finally ive quit, im 22 now and have bn without a drink for 2 months. alcohol is ur bets friend til u wake up and its ur only friend.

I drink every single day. Usually, 3 stiff drinks.

A friend that I hadn't seen in about a year stopped by my house yesterday. He wanted to take me out to dinner. I told him I don't do that but (luckily) he was persistant. We had a beer and then 2 stiff vodka drinks and I was ready to go out to eat... my least favorite thing to do in all of the world!

We had 2 more beers at dinner and I was feeling great. No anxiety whatsoever.

I even suggested that we go to a busy club after dinner! We had a great time. 8)

That's the real me... that's what I used to be like without any booze. I figure if it takes booze to make me feel comfortable then I'm gonna drink. Either that, or I could never leave the house.

There are plenty of "functional alcoholics". I guess I'm one of them.

you guys are so right and there is no way i'd want to be dependant on it.
i just found it amazing how i changed from this recluse to this wild child all because of a couple of drinks. seems so simple, but yeah, it would become another problem if i were to binge-drink daily. it's not worth it. we're so much better than that.

its bullshit really. The only things that tend to make every1 feel great and "Normal" are the very things that we cant rely on to get thru it. grrrrrrr

i started drinking when i was 14/15 and its just got worse - ima part of the subtance misuse team now - their helping me.

It still helps me alot in social situations (sometimes makes me more paranoid)

i admit to drinking a hell of alot every day but i cant wait to quit - alcohol in the end only does nothing but bad things.
sure its easy to build up a mind set of thinking you need it and it helps you but quittin is HORRRIBLE!

I most be a freak.I just get more depressed when I drink alcohol. No feeling of being more sociable.Been like that sense I was a kid.I really don't have a addictive personality anyways.Lucky me.

Besides for me I almost have gag reflex to the taste of alcohol.Alcohol has to be one of the worst tasting beverages human ever made in my opinion.

I wish I could become addicted to alcohol, as I could really do with having a crutch to help me with my s.p. - but I tried using alcohol, & unfortunately I just couldn't get into it. Sadly, I just don't seem to have an addictive personality, & don't particularly like the taste, & I hate feeling out of control.

Bye the way, harvey, I love that film. :D

good!!!!! theres no way in hell i could ever "big up" alcohol, in the end all it does is make you addicted and drain you, takin you into something which is impossible to get out of.
and in the end it takes LOADSSSS to even get drunk.

that was depressing.....but true!!!

sorry i quoted you - but i kinda felt your post was inna way insulting to me :? :?
