A few questions for Avert/Robinul users

Hey guys. I suffer from mild palmar, plantar and minor axillary hyperhidrosis. Sweating excessively on the hands is the only thing I really mind. I've tried topical antiperspirants for a long time, with no effects. I've also tried iontophoresis (Drionic H/F); I think I had mild results the first time, but never since. I was going to try botox injections but insurance doesn't cover the cost (which totals to more than $3000 dollars a year), so it's no longer an option. I'm going to try oral medications, but I have a few questions first. If they don't work, I''m going to buy another iontophoresis machine (apparently, Drionic is rubbish... [Sigh]). Any and all replies will be appreciated:

1. How do/did you get Avert/Robinul? How much did it cost?

2. What strength (mg) has been most effective for you?

3. What's been your experience with it? Are the side effects too severe? Be detailed if you can.

4. Can this website be trusted? http://www.pharmacy.ca/cgi-bin/prod...ERID!&getcategory=Excessive Sweating&active=6

5. If so, which of the capsule's packs do you think I should try?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't got any yet, going to see if I can get some from my doctor prescribed cheaper before I go there, but all I've heard is positive reviews about that website so it can be trusted.

Search the forum. There has been a lot of info posted about it. For me, I got it through prescription for $7. So far I am trying about 2-3 mg per day spaced out. I think it is helping, but I am still sweating at times, especially in nervous social situations. I may increase to around 4 mg per day. So far, not really any bad side effects. Throat and eyes can get a little dry, but that's no problem. I've never ordered from pharmacy.ca so I can't help you there.

Yeah, I'm going to my doctor and see if I can get a prescription for a cheaper price, but I doubt she has even heard of it. I've got an appointment this Saturday. Otherwise, I'll use pharmacy.ca.

Like you said, I've only heard positive feedback. :D

Hi Phoenix_Elite!

My own version of HH is cranio-facial, but I'll tell you of my experience with Avert, etc.

1. How do/did you get Avert/Robinul? How much did it cost?

A young worker at my gym, also with HH, mentioned pharmacy.ca and specifically the Secure wipes. I'm in Toronto, Canada, as are they, so I just went. The wipes didn't work for my problem, but if I had palmar HH I'd try them.

Cost of Avert has changed (I've been on it for about 2 years). Change of course means "goes up". I just got some--$75.00 for 100 2-mg. capsules. For me this is about a month and a half's supply. Not cheap, but I'd pay more.

2. What strength (mg) has been most effective for you?

I take 2 or 3 2-mg capsules a day.

3. What's been your experience with it? Are the side effects too severe? Be detailed if you can.

My experience has been that Avert was/is life-altering. After years of embarassment, discomfort, etc. to be largely sweat-free has been wonderful.
The only side effect I have is dry mouth, but it is sometimes a little and sometimes a lot--for no reason I've ever figured out. Even at its worst, I'm happy to put up with it--water or fruit candy ease it.

4. Can this website be trusted? http://www.pharmacy.ca/cgi-bin/productcategory2.cgi?ORDER_ID=!ORDERID!&getcategory=Excessive%20Sweating&active=6

As I've said, I "go to the source". I can tell you that this is a reputable place with very responsible pharmacists. In my own case, the pharmacist who spoke with me wouldn't give me Avert until talking to my doctor because of a particular health condition.
Haven't ordered online, but I believe those who have have been
well looked after.

5. If so, which of the capsule's packs do you think I should try?

I really don't know what packs are available. The lowest dose is best at first, I guess (though if you want my opinion, it probably won't be enough for a full-tilt HH person.)

Wishing you good luck!

Argh, I just found out I can't get the pills because pharmacy.ca doesn't ship to Puerto Rico. That means I'll try to get it by prescription (although I doubt I can find it in this little corner of the world), and if that doesn't work, by Walgreens.com or a similar site.

Thanks for replying margiehope. I'm going to start with a low dose because my body tends to respond strongly to pills at first. Then I'm going to amp up the potency. Quick questions, I thought Secure wipes were just for cranio-facial hyperhidrosis? Or maybe I've only heard of them using it. Should I continue applying topical solutions (20% aluminum chloride) once I start using the pill? Should I take it at a given time before I eat? Thanks!

Hi!

No, I think you can use Secure wipes anywhere you can wipe them. I first found out about them from a young friend who had severe underarm HH.
