Mothers-How do you handle your social anxiety?

I'm really considering becoming a mother, but afraid of how my anxiety would affect my child. I would not hide in a house all day, mine is not that bad, but I usually avoid 98% of all social functions. I guess when it comes to what's best for your kids, you really do just have to grin and bear it. Am I right?

I have a 2 and a half year old. I can honestly say I don't think my SA affects him one little bit. He spends 2 days a week at daycare (strictly because he needs interaction with kids), he is well behaved, well looked after, well loved. I have barely any friends, so we don't go out and socialise much. I do have one best friend who adores him and who I feel totally comfortable with.

When it comes time for birthday parties and whatnot.. Well like you said, I'll just grin and bear it. Although I would hope my therapy sessions would have significantly improved my SA by then.

I have an 11 yr old and she has autism. Since she's never had friends, I haven't had to worry about inviting friends to Birthday parties or sleepovers. I don't know what that would be like. School functions are difficult too but I usually force myself to go. I also have a 2 1/2 yr old who loves attention from strangers. When you have to take kids to Dr's and dentists, that makes it hard too if you have trouble with going to appt's or making phone calls.
