advice for probanthine please

Hi
I first posted on here a week ago, I have generalised HH but mainly cranio/facial. I managed to pluck up courage and visit my GP last week. I had talked to him about this problem 10 years ago and was told there was nothing I could do (ETS was not an option, and after reading some reports Im glad I didnt consider it) Anyway, he was really sympathetic and prescribed probanthine, the relief I felt that I even managed to discuss this I cannot describe! I took my first tablet Saturday morning 2 hours before food and was totally amazed that i stopped sweating. He had told me to take 1 tablet 3 times a day, but i only felt the need to take 2. Sunday morning did the same and was ok til about 3 in the afternoon, but then the sweats came back, nowhere near as bad as usual though. I live in the UK, and it was a lot hotter on the Sunday than it had been the day before. Yesterday (Monday it was boiling hot, still sweating but nowhere near as bad) Side effects Dry throat/mouth and eyes and also feeling a bit spaced out not good, but I would rather have them than being a dripping mess! I have a few questions if some of you lovely people could answer for me?
1. With cranio/facial HH do you feel unbearably hot when sweating? I always have and I thought the body sweated to cool itself down? Also my face is permanently flushed looking.

2.I damaged my back 3 years ago and have gained 3 stone in weight, I would love to be able to slowly build up my fitness, in order to lose weight and generally feel better. I noticed yesterday when it was really hot moving around incresed sweating, To be honest I havent really moved much in years, when I do I have to move slowly, I was hoping probanthine would mean I could move around more freely?

Im 56 years old and have been through the menopause, pretty sure that is no longer an issue with the HH.

Thanks for reading.

What you are experiencing is pretty common and has been discussed many numerous times on this forum. My advice is to take some time and keep reading as many back postings as possible. I know it's a pain to do, yet worth it since you will find many suggestions that can help you.

Pharmacy.ca is extremely reliable and reputable and they make "Secure Wipes" which is Robinul (Glycopyrrolate) solution on pads. They also sell their own brand of Glycopyrrolate called Avert. Glycopyrrolate comes as an oral tablet and can be prescribed by most physicians. Pharmacy.ca is out of Canada and no prescription is needed.

We have many people who your problem on here, unfortunately the forum has slowed down a bit. Everything you need to know has been discussed many times over.

I hope this helps you out.

**** I just read your prior posting and I see that you have tried Secure wipes. There are other various products listed here in the past, but honestly, cranio/facial HH seems to be a tough nut to crack. Some people just have zero luck with this particular HH.

Thanks for answering, Im in a bad place at the moment, I feel so very sad that I only recently found this forum. I saw a tv prog about HH about 10 yrs ago, and although I had the internet then I didnt think to research it. Ive so many missed oppurtunities from my younger life. Ive been pretty much isolated for the last 30 years, Ive been bullied when I did work, shame and full of self loathing. I wish I had done something sooner, every day im wracked with physical/mental pain, Ill stop now bwcause Im not helping my self, Thanks again Sprawling, Im going to persist with the probanthine for a few months, I had a 75% improvement with this, whenever i have the sweats my face has always flushed bright red, and I would rather have the side effects, red face but less sweating. I have never tried secure wipes, many alternative remedies, other than that the only thing i tried was odaban.

Hi, I was prescribed probanthine many years ago. I found it the most effective when I took the tablets on an empty stomach. It is quite a severe medicine as it leaves you with a very dry mouth. So is a double edged sword.
I used to mainly use it before going out, and ensure I hadn't eaten for some time prior. I'd then take 2 tablets and it would take maybe 30 mins before I could see the effect.
I'd have to chew gum and carry bottled water to deal with a dry mouth. And going out to eat was tricky as I had no saliva to break down the food. However it was at least better to be going out and not sweating than worry about the discomfort of not eating. Once I had the initial tablets that lasted around 5 hours, I would take another but the effects that day diminished. Also had to be careful not to take too many as I heard it can stop you urinating.
Probanthine was a good medicine for me, however as my sweating was mainly localised to my underarms, I found using a spray which stopped the sweat glands in that area was a more effective treatment for me. So I now use a spray from "Sweat Stop".
Good luck with Probanthine. After years of using it I still found it effective to use. The only time I would not use it is at home so I could eat without a dry mouth, and when exercising as I found myself overheating.
Probanthine for me was a planned medication for when I wanted to go out in public.
GL.
